Teterboro Aviation Museum Book Signing

   
    Henry Holden will sign copies of his new book, “Images of Aviation – 
Teterboro Airport,” on Saturday Feb. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey in Teterboro. 

   Holden’s book chronicles in pictures and words the history of the oldest airport in the New Jersey-New York City area. 

   Teterboro has been operating continuously since 1916.

    The museum, which is located adjacent to the airport at 400 Fred Wehran Drive, was founded in 1972 as the first state aviation museum in the country. It houses an extensive collection of historic air and space equipment and artifacts, photographs, and models.

   Visitors can see a Bell 47 MASH helicopter used in the Korean War
(photo at right), climb aboard a Martin 202A Airliner from the 1950s, and explore the Hall of Fame, which spotlights more than 150 aviation pioneers from the Garden State.  

    The museum is also a great place to bring the family. Kid-friendly attractions include touch-screen exhibits, flight simulators and a model plane in which kids can control wing movement and other features from the cockpit.

Teterboro: Mayor John P. Watt

  In the following audio interview, lifelong Teterboro resident and current mayor John P. Watt talks about growing up in the 1950s as the only child in the tiny borough, when the population numbered about 20 people (Teterboro now numbers about 60 residents).

   He recalls his grandfather’s farm and hunting in open fields prior to the development boom.  

    Mayor Watt also talks about growing up next to Teterboro Airport and how the airfield has grown over the years to become one of the nation’s busiest general-aviation airports.
